Methodology for Preparing the E-Commerce Ecosystem Map in the MENA Region (Middle East and North Africa) - Ecosystem Map for the UAE.

The E-Commerce Ecosystem Map for the MENA region provides an up-to-date overview of the current state of the market and its key players. This tool is valuable for both online retailers and service providers offering e-commerce solutions.
By using this map, online retailers can effectively address a range of challenges: selecting services to optimize internal processes, identifying technology partners, outsourcing operational workflows, analyzing the e-commerce market landscape, and adopting new technologies while enhancing existing competencies. For service providers, the map enables analysis of the current market situation, identification of emerging niche opportunities, competitive benchmarking, and discovery of potential partnership prospects.

Methodology for Preparing the 2025 E-Commerce Ecosystem Map for the UAE.
In the first phase of our work, we analyzed publicly available sources to identify new major players suitable for inclusion in the ecosystem, leveraging WEE’s partner network.
We then consulted regional experts, including specialists from Data Insight and WEE, to discuss the latest trends in e-commerce, key service categories, and the priority needs of online retailers. Expert interviews were conducted with representatives of service providers and major marketplaces, yielding valuable insights from both suppliers and their clients.
In the second phase, we refined the structure of the ecosystem and finalized its constituent players. The 2025 Map comprises seven core modules reflecting the primary needs of online retailers: “Marketing,” “Customer Communication,” “Logistics,” “Finance & Analytics,” “Marketplaces,” “IT,” and “Industry Organizations.” Each module includes various service categories specialized in solving specific e-commerce challenges; some categories are further divided into subcategories for more precise classification.

Services included in the 2025 Ecosystem Map were selected based on company applications as well as expert recommendations. Companies may enhance their visibility on the map by featuring their logo with enlarged size and an added background panel- this requires submitting an application.

The UAE Ecosystem Map will serve as a critical tool for understanding current and emerging market players, and for developing and implementing new business strategies within the MENA region’s e-commerce sector.

The “Marketplaces” block includes companies whose business model enables suppliers to connect through formats other than the 1P (first-party distribution) model, where the platform directly purchases and stocks goods.

The “Marketing” block features companies whose primary goal is to attract customers to a brand’s website, drive them toward targeted actions, and ensure customer retention through marketing tools. This is achieved via contextual and targeted advertising, collaborations with influencers, launching and growing online stores on social media platforms, listing products on marketplaces, and leveraging Retail Media. Special attention is given to services utilizing artificial intelligence and virtual reality environments.

The “Logistics” block includes companies that handle the delivery and tracking of shipments for e-commerce retailers, as well as those that help optimize and automate logistics and warehouse operations in the e-commerce sector.

The “IT” block includes services for building a website or mobile application for an online store, optimizing internal company operations, and implementing systems to protect against DDoS attacks.

The “Finance & Analytics” services provide financial solutions and technological infrastructure to facilitate payment transactions between e-commerce retailers and their customers. The ecosystem includes companies directly involved in processing payments during the checkout process, as well as firms that develop payment systems and other platforms enabling fast fund transfers. Additionally, the block features services offering business analytics and data-driven insights specific to the e-commerce market.

The “E-Commerce Organizations” block features companies engaged in brand localization and management, consulting services, and investment in the e-commerce industry. It also includes specialized communities and firms providing legal support for online businesses.

The “Customer Communication” block includes services that enable customer communication channels—such as call center solutions, SMS providers, and companies offering chatbot services.
